Hey group, I have a question. Have any of you traveled by air with a tripod? Would you rather rent a tripod at your destination when flying or take it with you?

Jody Lynn Dutro I have, once. Before I bought my own, I rented a CF tripod and Markins ball head from Lensrentals.com and took it with me to SE Asia. I packed it in my suitcase, which only added a few pounds of weight since it was the smaller travel size setup. The one I have now is a little larger, so I am thinking of getting a case for it that can be checked as a second piece of luggage.

My preference is to take my own tripod and ball head with me. But if you can rent what you want at your destination, and reserve it ahead of time so you know it will be there, then that could save the hassle of packing it and worrying about lost luggage.326 days ago
